Terms
Last updated October 22, 2026. Questions: hello@inaword.ai
The short version
- What you say is yours. We use it only to make and deliver your message.
- No abuse, ever. No threats, harassment, hate, sexual content, scams or anything meant to hurt someone. We hold back messages that break this, and remove people who do it.
- The headline, line, points and questions are written by AI from your voice. Check anything important.
- Anyone with a message’s link can open it, so share it as you would the message itself.
- Free is free: as many messages as you like, up to 3 minutes each. Pro ($8 a month or $80 a year) gives you 10 minutes and more detail on opens. Cancel anytime; refunds within 14 days of paying.
Who we are
In a Word is run by Sugarloaf Consulting Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 15028503), registered office Building 18 Gateway 1000, Whittle Way, Arlington Business Park, Stevenage, Hertfordshire, SG1 2FP. “We” and “us” means us. These terms apply whenever you use In a Word: on inaword.ai, in the iPhone or Android app, in the In a Word keyboard or in In a Word for Chrome. By recording a message, answering one or creating an account, you agree to them.
Who can use it
- You need to be 18 or older. In a Word isn’t for children, and we close accounts we learn belong to someone younger.
- If you sign in, keep access to your email address safe: the codes we send there are how you sign in. Tell us straight away at hello@inaword.ai if you think someone else is using your account.
- If you use In a Word for work, you’re agreeing to these terms for yourself and for your employer.
Your messages are yours
You own what you record and write, and the answers and replies you give. You give us permission to store it, turn it into text, write it up, show it to anyone with its link, and send the notifications and emails you’ve asked for. That permission is only for running In a Word, and it ends when the message is deleted (except for the short time it takes to clear backups). We never sell it, and we don’t use it to advertise to you.
Only record people who know they’re being recorded, and only share what you have the right to share.
What’s not allowed
We have no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Don’t use In a Word to send, or to ask for:
- threats of violence;
- encouraging, promoting or giving instructions for suicide, self-harm or an eating disorder;
- promoting terrorism, or selling drugs, weapons or stolen details;
- harassment, bullying or abuse of anyone;
- hate against people for who they are, such as their race, religion, gender, sexuality or disability;
- sexual content of any kind, and never anything involving anyone under 18;
- scams, phishing, or asking for passwords, codes, card or bank details under false pretenses;
- spam, or messages to people who’ve asked you to stop;
- anything illegal, or that breaks someone else’s rights (their privacy, copyright or trademarks);
- anything that harms In a Word itself: getting around our limits, overloading it, probing it for weaknesses, or copying it with automated tools.
How we keep it safe
- Every message is checked automatically as it’s written up. One that clearly breaks the rules above is held back: it’s never published, and we may look at it to check we got it right.
- Anyone can report a message they’re sent, and block its sender in the app. Messages reported by several people are taken down until we’ve looked at them.
- We act on every report within 24 hours. We remove content that breaks these terms, and we suspend or close the accounts of people who send it. Where the law requires it, or someone is in danger, we pass information to the police.
- Report anything at hello@inaword.ai, or with Report on the message.
Complaints and appeals
- If we hold back or take down your message, or suspend or close your account, and you think we got it wrong, email hello@inaword.ai with the message’s link, or the reference we showed you when we held it back. A person looks at it again, and we tell you what we decided, and why, within 5 working days.
- The same address is for any complaint: about a message someone sent you, how we handled a report, or how we keep In a Word safe (including under the UK’s Online Safety Act). A director of Sugarloaf Consulting Ltd is responsible for this.
- Under the EU’s Digital Services Act, hello@inaword.ai is also our point of contact for people using In a Word and for authorities, in English. If we can’t settle a complaint, you keep every right to take it to court.
Written by AI
The headline, line, points, questions, answers and the written-up message are made by AI from your voice. It’s usually right, but it can mishear or misjudge. You can edit a message until it’s opened, and the recording is always there to hear. Don’t rely on the write-up alone for anything important, such as medical, legal or financial decisions.
Links, sharing and other apps
A message’s link is long and random, so it can’t be guessed, but anyone who has it can open the message, answer it and reply. When you share a link through WhatsApp, Gmail, Slack or any other app, that app’s own terms apply to what happens there. We’re not responsible for other apps or websites.
Free and Pro
- Free costs nothing and doesn’t run out: as many messages as you like, up to 3 minutes each (with fair limits per hour and per day, so nobody can overload it). The people you send to never pay.
- Pro is a subscription: $8 a month or $80 a year, in US dollars, including any VAT or sales tax. It gives you messages up to 10 minutes, and shows how many times each message you send was opened and whether its recording was played. Prices and what’s included are on our pricing page.
- Who sells it. Pro is sold through Stripe’s Link, which acts as the seller (merchant of record): it takes your payment, handles tax, and sends your receipts. Its own terms apply to the payment. Your statement shows LINK.COM* IN A WORD.
- Renewal. Pro renews automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel, at the price you signed up at. We’ll tell you at least 30 days before any price change applies to you, and you can cancel before it does. You’ll get a reminder before a yearly renewal.
- Canceling. Cancel anytime from Manage Pro in your account menu (on the web), or through Link. Pro carries on until the end of the period you’ve paid for, then you’re on Free. Everything you’ve sent stays as it is. Deleting your account cancels Pro straight away.
- Refunds. If Pro isn’t for you, email hello@inaword.ai within 14 days of a payment and we’ll refund that payment in full. Pro starts as soon as you pay; this refund covers the 14-day right to cancel that consumers in the UK and EU have, and anyone else too.
- If a payment fails, Stripe tries again over a few days and Pro carries on meanwhile. If it still can’t take the payment, you’re back on Free.
- Pro bought on the web works wherever you’re signed in to the same account, including the iPhone and Android apps. Pro isn’t sold inside the apps.
Our side
- We work hard to keep In a Word running and your messages safe, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of mistakes. We may change features, and we’ll tell you in advance about any change that takes something important away.
- The In a Word name, logo, app and website are ours. You can use them to share and talk about your messages, but not to suggest you’re us or that we endorse you.
- If you use the iPhone app, Apple’s standard license for App Store apps also applies, alongside these terms. If you use the Android app, so do Google Play’s terms.
Responsibility
Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility where the law doesn’t allow it to be limited, such as for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. If you use In a Word as a consumer, you keep all your legal rights.
Otherwise, we’re not responsible for losses we couldn’t reasonably have foreseen, for business losses (such as lost profits or opportunities), or for what other people do with a link you shared. Our total responsibility to you for anything else is limited to the greater of £100 and what you’ve paid us for Pro in the 12 months before.
Ending things
- You can stop at any time. Delete your account on the web (Your messages, then your account menu), in the app (You, then Delete account), or ask us at hello@inaword.ai. That takes down every message you sent, recordings and all, and the links stop working. If you’re on Pro, it’s canceled at the same time.
- We can suspend or close an account, and take down messages, that break these terms. Where it’s safe and fair to, we’ll tell you why first.
Changes and the law
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it applies; using In a Word after that means you accept it. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes go to its courts, unless you live elsewhere in the UK or the EU and your local law gives you the right to use your own courts.
How we handle your data is in our privacy notice.
